Prayer Before Lighting the Candle

Prayer Before Lighting the Candle

Father in heaven
The light of Jesus
Has dispersed the darkness
Of hatred and sin
Accept this candle
And let the light your truth
Guide me to your kingdom
Inflame me heart with your grace
Keep me in the radiance of your truth
Fill my heart with your divine love
And please help me in my needs
(mention your petition)
Grant this through Christ our Lord
and through the intercession of
(mention your guardian angel)
Amen.
Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be

Memorare

MEMORARE

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known that anyone who fled
to your protection, implored your help and sought
your intercession, was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you.
O Virgin of virgins, my mother, to you, I come,
before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate,
do not despise my petition, but in your mercy
hear and answer me. Amen.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of Homestay Bed and Breakfast Home?

I wanted to share a part of the manual I wrote for my thesis about homestay bed and breakfast homes

What are the advantages of Homestay Bed and Breakfast Home?

1) You are the boss
You are fully responsible and have total control over the management of the activities in your Homestay Bed and Breakfast Home.
You can decide the days you can accommodate guests, when to go on holiday, or when to take a day off. You make your own schedule and no one is dictating you on what to do.

2) You get additional income
What you will earn will serve as extra income for the family.

3) You work at home
You don’t have to be tied up in 8:00-5:00 work schedule and struggle through the daily traffic.

4) You have more quality family time
You spend more time at home which means you are home most of the time and more you will be able to manage your own family and home.

5) You can continue other interests
Having a venture of Homestay Bed and Breakfast Home gives you the opportunity to do other activities at home. For instance, you could make sweet delicacies that can be blended in your meals to the guests and souvenir items like key chains and the like.

6) You meet new and interesting people
You will have the opportunity to meet interesting people. It’s an avenue to gain new friends even if you are at home.

7) You can choose your customers
You may choose the people to stay at your home. For instance, if you are a female who live with your child and your mother, you opt to accommodate female guests for security reasons. Or if you are concerned with morality issues, you would want married couples only as your guests.
Of course, choosing your customers should be properly made known to your customers. You should mention that you only accept female guests or married couples to avoid any misunderstandings.

What are the disadvantages Homestay Bed and Breakfast Home?

1) Less family privacy
Having a family business at home makes it difficult to put a demarcation line from your family time and activities. It is inevitable that you will encounter guests that need your assistance during your family time and activities. To prevent this from happening, all the members of the family should give their full cooperation; house rules and policies should be provided to the guests.

2) Work Load
It requires you to do everything – having additional linen to be washed. Full cooperation of the family members is needed to make the work load easier for the entire family. Assignments and tasks could be given to each member of the host family.

3) Repetition
You have to do same activities like preparing breakfast, daily updating your records, entertaining guests, and other activities.
If you are a type of person who doesn’t want to do the same things, Homestay Bed and Breakfast Home Program is not for you.

4) Income fluctuations
There will be times that you have guests and sometimes you have no guests. There will be peak and lean seasons. Sometimes your rooms are fully booked and then there will be times that you have no guests at all. This means, your income per month will vary.

The next thing that I’m going to share is how I organized my schedule, my timetable, and my life when I was doing my thesis.

I know already that my 1st sem will be a very busy. I enrolled TW1 and one subject as advised by the Faculty Secretary. By the way, that one subject was handled by my adviser.

Here’s my normative schedule:

Saturday:
Go to school to do research and attend a class
Stay in the library and have a little corner with all my stuffs. I have 3 bags – laptop bag, resources bag (photocopies and some books), and of course my bag with my usual stuff (water, wallet, umbrella, snacks, etc, etc, etc.) One of my classmates always checks the number of bags that I carry. She will check if my stuff are still complete which I really appreciate J

Sunday:
I really told my mother that I will not be contributing much in doing household chores and she totally understands. I sometimes go to the office and stayed in the garden to write. The place is quiet, conducive to writing, contemplating and tinkering.

Weekdays:
Of course I have work.

I snatch some office hours in downloading some files. That’s why I usually have two monitors in front of me – I have my desktop doing office works and my laptop downloading some files, researching, browsing and emailing. I cannot think and write of course while in the office that’s why I multitask.

Then when I’m home, I write, read, write, read…endless reading and writing from all the information I got.

I sometimes go to my adviser and our TW1 professor for consultation after work.

I also have to rush to some places to get materials or information.

So, for those who are planning to write their thesis, visualize yourself being busy and always rushing to go somewhere, to meet someone or to catch your mentors.

Actually, after you’re done with your degree, you will ask yourself, “What am I going to do every Saturday and Sunday?” Funny but it happened to me and to my classmates. During our graduation day, that was March 29, 2008, Saturday, me and my classmates were eating some finger foods served by the Graduate School for the graduating students while waiting for the start of the commencement ceremony.

Classmate: Ano na gagawin ko tuwing Saturday? (What am I going to do every Saturday?)
Me: Oo nga noh! Ano na nga ba? Di na ko busy!! (Yeah, you’re right! What are we going to do? I’m not busy anymore!!)

Style to Go: Home Solutions by Josh Garskof

I’m currently reading Style to Go: Home Solutions by Josh Garskof.

To share some tips…

Around the house: When you plug a bunch of cords into a power strip, label each one first using a standard office label

Kitchen: Take a cue from restaurants and hang pots and pans from a pot rack, rail or hooks. This solution keeps them stored but readily available

Bedrooms: When bedroom space is tight, consider a sliding closet door, which eliminates the need for a door to swing into the room and take up precious space

Kids’ spaces: Make it easy for kids to store their own toys by giving them each a storage bin labeled with their name or the toys that belong inside.

The book was on sale! Bought it for Php 209.50.

Prayer for the Souls in Purgatory

Found this 5 years ago in Catholic online site.

St. Gertrude the Great was told by our Lord that each time the following prayer was said, one thousand souls would be released from purgatory!

“Eternal Father, I offer you the most precious blood of your divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal Church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.”

Topic for a thesis...what topic?

As I recall my thesis, I realized that I was able to finish my thesis!! It was indeed an achievement for me! whew!

Will share some tips on how to choose a topic for your thesis. This is based on my experience in the Graduate School of the University of Santo Tomas. I was enrolled for Thesis 1 during the 1st semester of SY 2007-2008 then continued the Thesis 2 and 3 in the second semester.

1) Before enrolling to TW1 or Thesis 1, think possible topics that you are willing to deal with for 1 year or more. I mean, you will be researching on that topic for months, so better yet, choose a topic that really interests you.

2) Talk to your mentors. As for me, I discussed my "possible" topic to one of my professors in the Graduate School. Asked for his inputs, ideas, advices and opinions. Or just speak with someone whom you trust and ask for their opinions if the topic of your choice is feasible and interesting.

3) In UST, the Research Director will ask you to submit 10-20 journals (if I remember it correctly) related to your topic and that will be the basis if the topic of your choice will be approved.

4) While waiting for the approval, spend time in the Central Library and research for resources - books, articles, cases, etc. Search the EBSCO database.

During the Thesis 1 class, our professor told us to choose a topic that will not just collect dust on the shelves of the Central Library! Actually that is true! That made me think that I chose the right topic.

I chose the Homestay Bed and Breakfast as my topic because before I enrol for TW1 and while in search of a topic, I was able to meet the President of a NGO and one of their projects is Homestay Bed and Breakfast. It caught my attention and interest because the first thing that popped up in my mind is that, cheaper rates of room accommodation? Hmmm..that's great. Will explain further on this next time because there are so many definitions of homestay, bed and breakfast, and homestay bed and breakfast.

Homestay Bed and Breakfast

Will start sharing my thesis and for sure it will be a series of posts.

As a backgrounder, I finished my MBA last year, March 2008 from the Royal, Pontifical, Catholic University...University of Santo Tomas. It ook me 4 years by the way to finish because I'm working as well.

My topic was somewhat unusual...or let's say, resources are not easy to find. I had a hard time to find resources on such topic here in the Philippines.

To start with, will be sharing the article I wrote 2 years ago. This was published in Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Enjoy :)

Grey just gave birth!

My beloved Grey just gave birth last Saturday, June 27. We have four new kittens.

She gave birth right infront of me!! I was surfing the net then she was screaming at me and then when I looked at her, she is giving birth!

I don't know what to do..she was walking while giving birth. We both went down. My uncle gave her a box where she could continue giving birth and then I put the first born inside the box. Then, after a few minutes, another one came out!

I left her around 4 pm cause I think she's done.

The following morning, I was informed that we have a total of 4 new kittens. She is keeping her kittens near our water dispenser.

Every after meal, she is feeding her kittens. What a wonderful scene to see and her kittens!

Chocolate molding

One of my talents (naks!) is chocolate molding.

I attended a one day class from the Chocolate Lovers' main office last 2004 or 2005. I became interested in this kind of hobby because I was looking for something to give on Christmas to my friends, officemates and relatives that I can say that I made those stuffs with my own hands and with love.

Actually, I'm fond of doing stuffs/crafts, whatever you call it as my gifts to someone. Will tell more about this sometime. Anyway, will share to you the steps.

To get started. You need the following:
1) double boiler or an improvise will do. Since I started doing this, I always use the stainless ice bucket and stainless bowl.
2) molders (cost about P90 per)
3) tray
4) chopping board (I suggest, you buy a chopping board intended for chocolates only because if you will use the chopping board you are using for your meat, onions, etc. your chocolates might smell like it)
5) spoons
6) knife
7) tray
8) plastic and straw for packaging or whatever packaging you will use
9) kettle with hot water
Procedures:
1) Chop the chocolates into small pieces.
2) fill the stainless steel bucket or your double boiler 3/4 with the newly boiled water.
3) put the stainless steel bowl with the chocolates in it on top of the bucket.
4) Melt the chocolates. make sure not to stir as if you're stirring a soup.
5) fill the molders with the melted chocolates. put the straw.
6) put the molders inside the freezer for a couple of minutes.
7) then remove the chocolates from the molders. let it stand for how many minutes on the tray
8) put inside the plastic or whatever packaging you will use you may add rice crispies, almonds, nuts, etc.

Check this link for some of my molders and finished products http://www.shareapic.net/content.php?gid=660578&owner=mpagkatipunan

For those who want customized designs, Chocolate lovers is accepting orders. It cost about P10,000 for the design + 20 pieces molders. It will take about 3-4 weeks to get the molders sometimes months because it depends on the season. They guarantee the clients that NO ONE will get your design or they will not sell your design.

a certified newbie!

Welcome to my blog!

This is my first time to write a blog. I’m a certified newbie! Yey!

I’m going to share all the things I love, stuffs that make me busy and sometimes earn from it. Everything that will be written here are purely my opinion, points of view, experiences and my beliefs.

To start with, I’ll share with you the members of our family that makes me smile always…our cats! We have a total of 7 cats and two of them are pregnant so we are expecting new members of our family.

for my first post, I will be introducing the cats that make our family smile.

1) Pussy - According to a book I read, her breed is ODD-EYED WHITE. My cousin found her along the street of V.Mapa way back 1998. It was intended to be his cat because he prefers cats and I prefer dogs but Pussy for some reasons preferred to stay in our home :) By the way, there's a connecting staircase between our home and my cousin's that's why our cats can roam around and stay anywhere. We cannot have a dog as well so we opted to have cats instead.

Pussy loves to cuddle, i think all cats do that. She loves to beg for food especially from my mother. She loves to stare at my father as if begging and saying thru her eyes that she has not eaten in years! She loves chicken! that's why whenever we eat out, I always bring home leftovers for our cats, expecially for Pussy. One of the interesting thing about Pussy, she scares the dogs! One of our tennants owns a local dog, Snowbear, who is in medium built. Whenever Snowbear is out of his cage, he will run in front of out compund but, he cannot move forward once Pussy is there.

After 11 long years, she was able to bring in this world her look a like!! and that's Puti.

2) Puti - we lost her actually but we were able to bring her back. I'm so sad when she disappeared because we waited for a look like of Pussy for 11 years. I posted signages of MISSING CAT then will give a reward. It was a birthday gift for me because when I was about to sleep on the night of my birthday, children where banging our gate and yelling that they have the kitten. It was also sad that when I see people reading the signages of the missing cat, they were laughing, smiling, as if telling that it was just a cat! It's just so sad that there are Filipinos who are not fond of taking care of pets.

3) Nanay - one of the stray cats who stayed in our compund. Before, we had Losyang, and other stay cats who stayed in our compund, brought us kittens, sometimes 12 newly born kittens! But Nanay was able to give birth 2 sets already and from the 1st set, Kuya was the only survivor and from the 2nd set, Threesky. Nanay is pregnant!

4) Kuya - of course, he's the eledest from the "kittens". We called him before Muningsky but then one time I called him Kuya, he looked at me, and telling me that he prefers to be called as Kuya.

5) Threesky - Obviously she has three colors. I cried a lot when her brothers died - Dungsy and Bulgy. They were so playful, energetic then one day they became sick. We had termites pest control that time. and we concluded that since they loved to catch cockroaches, they were poisoned. Because the roaches inhaled as well the pesticides. Threesky is the only survivor from her batch. Threesky is the best catcher of mice! She really stays where she knows where the mice will come out. She treated Grey as her little sister.

6) Grey - I adopted Grey. One of the 6 kittens of the cat from AIM. I can say, Grey is so loyal to me. She's like a dog, always following me. For instance, once I woke up, I will proceed to the cr then I will find her waiting outside. When she was younger, she used to try to catch her tail. Now she's pregnant! and she's not even 1 year old!! I think she was born in August in one of the flower pots of the garden.

7) Rusty - technically he's not my cat, he's my cousin's cat but will include him becuase he's part of the entire family. He's the second siamese cat of my cousin. The first one was Sasky, the older brother of Rusty who died last year. Btw, we lost a lot of our cats late last year probably because of the termite pesticides. Rusty loves to jump all over the place of my cousin. My tita even call him a monkey. He's the youngest sibling :) My tita and tito treats him a baby, their companion and entertainer.

I love taking candid pictures of all our cats. Actually once the mother take them out of somewhere, I take pictures of them. It's like an ID because once we had this "impostor kitten" Nanay gave birth- the batch of Kuya, 4 kittens, 2 golden brown and 2 tri-color. One day, one of the golden brown was gone, so we assumed, it's already gone because the kitten must have been stolen. Then after 2 days, i think. Nanay was feeding 4 again! So I rejoiced because the golden brown came back! But...I noticed that somehting is wrong. I took out the pictures and checked! The golden brown is an impostor! Though the impostor is the same size of the rest. The missing golden brown's coat is pure golden brown up to its paws but the impostor, it has white paws, as if wearing gloves. So we let it go, because the poor kitten must be hungry or must be missing her mom as well but the following day, the impostor was gone.

I have so many stories to tell about the characteristics, antics and attitude of our cats. Will write some more about them and will share as well pictures of them.
